James is a 60 year old economic analyst for the Canadian Government. He has also been involved with personal computers for nearly 30 years, first as a hobby and then, for a while, as a hardware/software support professional. Now James works as an occasional web builder and consultant.

Amongst many other pursuits, James has been involved in aviation throughout his life, most recently as a volunteer with a civilian air search and rescue organization. For them he was a Deputy-Director for air operations, a search master, a trainer and a navigator. While James is no longer an active member, he continues to watch for ideas and methods to improve search performance through computer use, which led him to trying Elima's product.

Victoria Veligodsky: What challenges which made you search for this kind of software?

James Gilham: I am using a serial port to connect to a GPS receiver. I wished to use the signal concurrently in several software applications. The splitter for serial ports seemed to be the best answer.
Victoria Veligodsky: How did you first know about the product by Eltima Software?

James Gilham: I did a "Google" search for "serial port splitter" and found several products, but Serial Splitter product appeared to be the most straight-forward. It also offered a trial period which allowed me to determine the product suitability.
Victoria Veligodsky: Did you try using other products before choosing Serial Splitter by Eltima? What made you prefer our product?

James Gilham: Yes, I tried several others, less - and more expensive but for ease of setup and ease of use Eltima's Serial Splitter gave the best result. This may be important if the product is eventually to be used by others who are less computer-literate.
Victoria Veligodsky: What are you using Serial Splitter now for?

James Gilham: As a hobbyist and volunteer, I have used the product to allow the use of a single serial-connected GPS receiver to be used by several software products concurrently. This could be useful for plotting (mapping) search tracks for later review while using secondary software to maintain positional and attitudinal data for both 'live' use and later review.

Such solutions are very useful in Air Search and Rescue scenarios for determining the "quality" of search results and areas of coverage.
Victoria Veligodsky: What was your personal benefit from using Eltima's Serial Splitter?

James Gilham: This has been very useful where the other products individually have not been able to provide the data I wished to have. By using Serial Splitter I am able to get what I want. I am applying this for use with navigation and aeronautic positional awareness.

I can see this product as being very useful in surveying, civilian search and rescue and several other applications where the use of one data input can be used by several, necessary computer programs.
