Company Information: The University of Haifa's Library is the leading academic Library in Israel. It serves more than 13,000 students in different degrees and its inventory contains more than 1,500,000 books, periodicals and all other media formats.
Victoria Veligodsky: What challenges have driven you to search for the software of this kind?Sorin Solomon: While trying to implement a solution to monitor and charge the use of public printers on our Terminal Servers farm in our library, we needed a software that will allow us to run a simple program (actually, two of them) as a service on a Windows server.
Victoria Veligodsky: How exactly did you get to know about Application as Service by Eltima?Sorin Solomon: The vendor of the monitoring software we tried to implement recommended us few solutions to achieve this goal. There were free solutions and not-free software. Among the latter we found Eltima's Application as Service. We understood immediately that this is the software we were looking for. Victoria Veligodsky: Did you try other products for the same task before choosing Eltima solution? Why did you prefer our product?
Sorin Solomon: We tested both free and not free solutions. We started with the free solutions, but in the end we decided to go with Application as Service and buy a few licenses.
The main reason was the simplicity of the product, both at the installation and at the daily use basis. Victoria Veligodsky: Please, describe how you are using Application as Service now.
Sorin Solomon: We installed the product on our Terminal Servers and configured two programs to run as services. They are using a local Administrator account to run.
Since the installation (and we are talking about more than a year now), we never had to change anything in the way the software or the programs run. Your Application as Service proved to be stable and reliable. Victoria Veligodsky: Please, let us know how your library benefited from using our solution.
Sorin Solomon: Opting for the use of Application as Service looked like the right decision then, and it showed that it was true since.
Never had any problems whatsoever, and never had to worry again that the servers will restart themselves alone and no one will be around to start the monitoring programs. Your solution eased our work and still saves our time.
