Victoria Veligodsky: What challenges made you search for this kind of software?

Patrick Collins: We use a program called Winstream made to load the core software on to Hypercom terminals. Previously we were loading one terminal at a time. A very painful process when you are deploying 200 terminals a month. Using a RJ45 4-port RocketPort PCI card and some custom cabling we thought we would be good to do four at a time.

Well, we would be except that the Winstream software is only designed to select COM1 through COM4. This lead to two problems: the software could only handle one load at a time, and two of the COM ports assigned to the RocketPort card were COM5 and COM6. The problem of multiple loads is easily fixed by having four separate programs installed running independently. However, even changing the config file only allows for up to COM5 to be addressed. This led us to begin looking for an easy to use and quickly reversible serial port redirecting program.

Patrick Collins: I searched all over the Internet, browsing various download sites and search engines. After downloading and trying several of the port mapping programs available on the Internet, I found that the Advanced COM Port Redirector by Eltima Software to be my favorite for several reasons.

Patrick Collins: The number one reason that I preferred Advanced Com Port Redirector over the other five programs I tried, is that the interface could not be more simple. The program is easy to use, and easy to install. With Eltima's Advanced Com Port Redirector port naming could not be easier and more to the point.

I know that if I need someone else who is unfamiliar with this custom setup to ever admin it for me, I feel comfortable knowing that they will easily adapt the port configuration setting used by Advanced Com Port Redirector.

Victoria Veligodsky: Please, describe how you are using our product now.

Patrick Collins: With Advanced Com Port Redirector installed on this custom work station we can now core load not only 4 terminals at a time like we had originally set out to accomplish, but can now load up to FIVE terminals at the same time. We couldn't even imagine that before!

Victoria Veligodsky: How did you benefit from using Advanced COM Port Redirector?

Patrick Collins: Advanced Com Port Redirector has allowed us to increase the potential production of this product by 400%. We are extremely happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone facing a port naming issue.
