Victoria Veligodsky: What challenges made you search for this kind of software?

Arthur Page: I use a wireless card (sierra wireless 597E) with my HP (Pavillion DV66661SE). My wireless card has a built in GPS receiver. I run Nroute (by Garmin, but I don't have a garmin GPS unit), Delorme Street Atlas 2008, Streets and Trips, as well as a program called Drivers Daily Logs which has a GPS module I use to locate my position on my federally mandated logbook. My computer will only allow 1 of these items to run off my GPS signal at a time.

Because of the variances in mapping software and the need to log everything I do, I run the multiple programs. Having them all running at once makes my life a whole lot easier, especially when I only have a minute to make a decision on a route change (due to traffic, weather, construction, etc.) and not a piece of software is correct 100% of the time.

Victoria Veligodsky: How did get to know about Serial Splitter by Eltima Software?

Arthur Page: I researched different websites and blogs to find a product that would be flexible enough and would also run without any conflicts in my situation. A product that was based on a stable software platform that could run for hours without any issues or need any kind of input from me while I was driving. When I found Serial Splitter, I finally got some hope.

Victoria Veligodsky: Did you try other products for the same task before choosing Eltima solution? Why did you prefer our product?

Arthur Page: I did try other products and was very unhappy with everything else I tried. Serial Splitter was the one that was the most stable and had the easiest user interface. Most other product would not even run on my system due to the fact that I have windows vista 64-bit. Your Serial Splitter did, and did it very smoothly.

Victoria Veligodsky: Please, describe how you are using Serial Splitter now.

Arthur Page: I am using your product to split my GPS port (com 7) to several other ports so that my various mapping software programs can all access the GPS input and place me on the map. I use it to plan routes and make route changes on the fly. I also use it with a logbook program I have to give me an exact GPS position on my driver daily logbooks.

Victoria Veligodsky: How did you benefit from using Eltima solution?

Arthur Page: It allowed me to use my laptop in ways I had hoped would be possible. By being able to split my GPS input into many applications Serial Splitter makes my day-to-day life a lot more efficient and easier.

Before I would only be able to choose 1 program at a time to run and plan out my route, than just hope that I didn't run into any detours or any other problems. Due to the size of my vehicle (87ft long and 13'6 high) low bridges and road restrictions is a big problem.

By being able to use various mapping software at once Serial Splitter made it a lot easier to make on the fly decisions because I had access to 3 different maps. Most mapping software companies purposely included extra or excluded some streets and roads as a copyright protection method. It becomes a problem when you try to take an imaginary road or don’t take a road because you did not know of its existence. Also not all of the maps have the streets and address that I may be searching for when I need to pickup or deliver a load.
