FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Q.
Which format it is better to convert video file into: SWF or FLV?
A. Converting video file into SWF movie will embed
video within Flash movies by importing video and placing it on the Timeline. When the Flash movie is published,
the video is fully incorporated in the SWF file and, as the result, Flash file may be quite large with a big traffic
load to web server. FLV file is a streaming video file which means that it cannot be used as a stand-alone Flash video
file but should be called within a SWF file using ActionScripts. SWF and FLV files are kept separate,
resulting in a smaller SWF file size. We advise you to convert large video files into FLV if you are an experienced
web developer.
Q. What is the difference
between Flash MX and Flash 3+ formats?
A. Macromedia Flash MX format is the most advanced and up-to-date
format which produces high quality videos with good compression rate (Sorensen H.253 bitstream).
The advantage of Flash MX format is that the resulting SWF file is smaller in size, however, to be able to view it,
you need Macromedia Flash player version 6 or higher. On the other hand, SWF Flash 3+ format is more universal.
To play such SWF files you and your clients need Macromedia Flash player version 3 or better.
However, undocumented tags used to handle playback, worse video quality (video is, in fact, a set of JPEGs)
and higher disk space requirements make this format rather dubious. If you eager to deliver SWF movie to broad
Internet audience, please convert your movie to SWF Flash 3+ format. In the most cases we recommend you to convert to Flash MX.
Q. How can I view/convert WMV and AVI files?
A. If you experience certain problems with viewing and converting
some video files that means that your operating system might not have correct codecs installed which were used to encode the video.
Indeed, you want to be able to view these files on newly installed operating system however, by default, it doesn't have all available
codecs. To fix this problem you have to download third-party codec packs that are freely available on the Internet. For instance, you
may install Media Player 9 (or better) or download Microsoft Format SDK at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/windowsmedia/downloads/default.aspx
Q. How can I create image watermarks of custom shape?
A. In order to create image watermarks of custom shape you have to
create PNG image with transparency in your favorite image editor and specify the path to it when converting to SWF/FLV. All transparent
areas in your PNG file will be transparent as well in the resulting Flash movie.
Q. The resulting SWF movie has alternating
white/black horizontal lines, however, the source video doesn't have them. What's wrong with SWF file?
A. The original video, more likely, was recorded by digital camcorder
and has interlaced digital format. Interlaced cameras record the image in alternating sets of lines, which after converting into
SWF movie, appear in the movie. To remove this effect you should prepare your source video by removing interlacing in any available
video editor prior to converting into SWF/FLV.
Q. I have a strange warning whenever I open some video files. What does it mean?

A.
This problem may arise if you have Nero Vision Express (which is a part of Nero Burning suite) installed in your system. Whenever
operating system enquires the available filters in order to render to movie and encounter NeVideo.ax/NeAudio.ax downstream filters
it generates the above messagebox. To fix this problem, please, unregister both filters by issuing
regsvr32 /u NeVideo.ax and regsvr32 /u NeAudio.ax in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\"
folder.
Q. How to inform developers
