Use CloudMounter to Remotely Download Torrents (for legal use)

Olga Weis

We travel extensively these days – a lot of us are constantly on the move, shuttling between cities and countries. So we have to figure out how to get done things remotely, and this often includes downloading torrents. Despite all the controversy around this technology, it remains the most popular way of sharing large data online and we certainly recommend torrent files download, as long as you do not violate anyone’s copyrights.

We know that torrent download file is somewhat doable, it just seems to require a lot of effort to set it up and make it work. It was true till recently, but now we have CloudMounter. This cloud manager makes things really easy: now you can download torrents to a cloud storage mounted on your Mac and further download them to your hard drive with the help of uTorrent. Configuration to be done in the torrent manager and CloudMounter is minimal.

Here is what needs to be done:

  1. Download and install CloudMounter.

This software solution mounts cloud storage services on Mac so you can access and manage data stored there as if it were kept on a local hard drive. Services supported include Dropbox, Microsoft One Drive, Google Drive and Amazon S3, choose any as the destination for your torrents files.

We’ll take Dropbox as an example here. Create a torrent directory in the Dropbox, dedicated specially for saving torrents – this will simplify the further process.

  2. Download and install uTorrent.

Here is how you set up uTorrent download: go to Options > Preferences, in Directories Listing find ‘Automatically load .torrents from’ setting. Enable it and select newly created Dropbox’s torrent directory. You thus instructed uTorrent to download torrent files from this folder.

Now no matter where you are, you can download a torrent file into the designated folder and it will get saved on your remote Mac. Make sure that both CloudMounter and uTorrent are up and running on your Mac.
