Daylight Savings and Google Calendar(Read 17178 times)
Daylight Savings and Google Calendar on: March 15, 2010, 06:43:09 PM
I'm syncing Entourage with iCal and then syncing the iCal Entourage calendar with Google.  Unfortunately, recurring meetings do not seem to sync properly.  The are an hour late.  If I recreate a recurring meeting, it syncs up correctly.  Unfortunately, I am unable to recreate all of the meetings since I am not the owner of all of them.  Note that iCal shows them correctly.

Another recurring meeting issue is that if I delete a specific occurrence of a meeting, that does not get sync'd to Google calendar either.

I'm using Build 2.5.0.922 and fully updated Snow Leopard.

Thanks,
-Tom

Please check whether your Google calendar, Entourage calendar and Mac calendar have the same Time Zones.

Note that SyncMate syncs iCal with Google calendar, but not Entourage calendar with Google calendar.

Thanks for the reply.  As far as I can tell, all are the same time zone.  Since the incongruity is between iCal and Google Calendar, I can only assume it has to do with the sync between the two.  Also, it ONLY occurs for recurring appointments that start during Standard time.

One possible issue is that Google says:

(GMT-8:00) Pacific Time

and Entourage says

(GMT-7:00) Pacific Time ...

I'm assuming that is just Google being lazy, but it makes me wonder.

Thanks,
-Tom

I'm curious what you would have me change.  Both are set to Pacific Time.  I could set Google to Mountain Time, but that seems wrong.  Or I could set Entourage to Tijuana.  That doesn't seem right either.

I've tried the former, and I don't see any difference.  Not keen on doing the latter.

1. How your events are displayed in iCal? Do you have the same times zones and hours in Entourage and Google?
BTW, in Google each calendar may have its own time zone.
2. Please try to switch Time Zone in Google calendar to Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) = GMT-7
Does it work ok if you change Time Zones?

Re: Daylight Savings and Google Calendar Reply #6 on: April 07, 2010, 06:39:10 PM
iCal looks fine and I have not had any luck changing timezones.

Also, I notice that when a single event is removed from a series of meetings in Entourage, it does not get removed from the Google Calendar.  And if I remove that single event from the Google calendar.

All of these issues appear to only be an issue with recurring meetings. Single instance meetings seem to work fine.

Does this mean that events in iCal are not one hour late?

Are events removed in iCal, if you remove them in Google calendar and then sync it to your Mac?

Also, please, let us know whether events are removed in Google, if you remove them from iCal and then sync with Google.

iCal always looks correct.  It matches what is in Entourage.  Deletions, modifications, times, are all correct in iCal.

I no longer do a two-way sync because syncing back from Google creates odd entries, again mainly for recurring meetings if I'm tried to fix them in Google.

Currently, my work around is to push iCal->Google and make adjustments as necessary.  Not very satisfactory, but it will have to do since you don't seem to be able to replicate the issues I'm having.

As far as I understand you're having one more issue with duplicated events in Google calendar in addition to the issue with the events being one hour late in Google. Am I correct?

If this is the case, please, provide the following:

- SyncMate activity log during synchronization

- Are there any on-line calendars (subscriptions, like CalDev) that you sync with SyncMate?

With regards to events being one hour late, have you tried to switch Time Zone in Google calendar to Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) = GMT-7 instead of
Google says:

(GMT-8:00) Pacific Time
?

I'm having the exact same issues.  It's mainly for recurring meetings where I'm not the originator.  It seems to work if I set the Entourage calendar timezone in Google Calendar to be the same timezone as Entourage, rather than leaving it on automatic.

It's odd, but at least I don't have to touch my global Google Cal timezone.

Of course I'm getting:

400 Invalid recurrence information. There are no valid instances that follow the given recurrence data

400 Invalid recurrence information. There are no valid instances that follow the given recurrence data

400 Invalid recurrence information. There are no valid instances that follow the given recurrence data

So, since I've fixed some of them in Google before syncing, I might have just broken it and it's working by accident.

Please, provide us with the full activity log from SyncMate.

Re: Daylight Savings and Google Calendar Reply #13 on: July 22, 2010, 03:42:59 PM
The event that you're trying to sync is not quite correct:

"start date" = 2009-08-24 09:00:00 -0400;
"end date" = 2009-08-24 17:00:00 -0400;
recurrence =     {
        frequency = daily;
        until = 2009-08-25 13:00:00 +0000;
"exception dates" =         (
            2009-08-25 09:00:00 -0400,
            2009-08-24 09:00:00 -0400
        );

Thus, it looks like this event can't happen at all. Please, correct this event.
