Add and Edit Smart Playlists

Elmedia Player gives you a possibility to create smart playlists.

What is a smart playlist?

Smart playlist includes only items matching the criteria you’ve specified. For example, files of a particular format. Elmedia Player automatically filters Library and adds to the list only the items which correspond to the criteria you’ve set beforehand. When you add a file to Library that matches the criteria, Elmedia Player automatically adds the file to the corresponding smart playlist.

How to add a smart playlist?

Press Options_Normal button at Toolbar and choose “Add Smart Playlist” option:

add_playlist

You can also add a new smart playlist via Main menu –> File –> New Smart Playlist:

add

In the invoked window specify rules, that is, criteria according to which files will be chosen. Follow these steps to create a smart playlist:

  • The first thing to do is specify the smart playlist name in the corresponding text field:

smart

  • Specify the way your rules will be matched: all or any. If you choose “all”, the file must correspond to each of the criteria you’ve specified (e.g. name and play count). If you choose “any”, the file must correspond to any of the criteria. You can add/delete rules by clicking the corresponding buttons. Remember, rules’ number is limited to ten.
  • Now select rules which will be matched:

Name – the playlist will be created based on the name you specify. Choose one of the criteria (is, contains, begins with or ends with) and type the name in the text field.

Path – the playlist will be created based on the path you specify. Choose one of the criteria (is, contains, begins with or ends with) and type the path in the text field. E.g. if you type in “music”, all files containing this word in their path will be added to playlist.

Type – the playlist will be created based on the file format you specify. Choose one of the criteria (is, contains, begins with or ends with) and write the file type in the text field, e.g. flv.

Rating – the playlist will be created based on the rating you’ve specified. Any file can be rated in “Rating” field in List. Later this rating will be used to sort files while creating a smart playlist. Choose one of the criteria (is less than, is greater than, is) and write the rating value in the text field.

Play count – the playlist will be created based on the play count (the most frequently played files). Elmedia Player registers the play count of a file each time it is played. For example, if you play the same file two times, the file’s play count will increase by two. To create a smart playlist, choose one of the criteria (is less than, is greater than, is) and write the play count value in the text field.

Date added – the playlist will be organized by the date the file was added to Elmedia Player. Choose one of the criteria (is before, is after, is) and write the date in the text field.

Last played – the playlist will be organized by the date the file was last played by Elmedia Player. Choose one of the criteria (is before, is after, is) and write the date in the text field.

URL – the playlist will be created based on URLs of files downloaded by Elmedia Player. You can view file URL in file info. Choose one of the criteria (is, contains, begins with or ends with) and type the URL in the text field.

  • Once rules have been specified, press “OK” button.
  • To play your smart playlist, choose it at Library sidebar. Click it, and the playlist will appear in List.

There are two modes of files playback – Repeat and Shuffle:

    1. Click “Repeat” button at movie controls panel. It may have one of the three states: “Repeat Off”, “Repeat One” (the current file will be played continuously), “Repeat All” (all files in your smart playlist will be repeated).

    2. Click “Shuffle” button to play smart playlist items randomly.

How to manage a smart playlist?

  • To remove a smart playlist, select it and press Minus_Normal Toolbar button. You must confirm smart playlist removal by choosing the corresponding option in the invoked window:

    remove_playlist_alert

  • To edit a smart playlist, select it and press Options_Normal Toolbar button and choose “Edit Smart Playlist” option.
  • Removing an item from Library makes the item automatically disappear from your smart playlist as well. Changes will be applied only after you refresh the smart playlist (switch between playlists, for example).
