Configuring Windows Firewall Settings

FlexiHub has to communicate via the network to establish connection.

So you need to configure your Firewall to allow “flexihub.exe” and your custom application (in the examples below it’s named as “flexihub-custom.exe”) to send/receive data over the network.

To achieve that, add “flexihub.exe” and “flexihub-custom.exe” to Firewall “Exceptions” list:

  1. Choose Start –> Settings –> Control Panel –> Windows Firewall.
  2. Choose the “Exceptions” tab and click the “Add Program” button.
  3. In the invoked window browse to the required files (usually, they are stored in “C:Program FilesEltima Software”).
  4. Finally, click OK.

Also, make sure that TCP port, used in the connection, is added to firewall “Exceptions” list. Let’s see how to do this in Windows Firewall.

  1. Choose Start –> Settings –> Control Panel –> Windows Firewall.
  2. Choose the “Exceptions” tab and click the “Add Port” button.
  3. In the invoked window choose the “TCP” radio button.
  4. Type port name and number in the corresponding text fields.
  5. Finally, click OK.

As an alternative, you can disable Firewall. It guarantees that connection requests will pass. Please, note that disabling Firewall may be potentially dangerous to your PC. Be sure to enable Firewall again once you finish using the remote device.

How to Open a Port in Windows 7 Firewall

  1. Choose Start –> Control Panel –> Windows Firewall.
  2. On the left, click the “Advanced Settings” link.

  4. Then, on the right, under Actions, click the “New Rule” link.
  5. Select “Port option” and click Next.
    firewall3-300x241
  6. In the “Specific Local Ports” box, type the ports you want to open, separated by commas, then click Next.
  7. Choose “Allow the Connection” and click Next.
Here you indicate whether the rule should be applied if you are connected to a domain network, a private network, or a public network. The safest option is to make it open only on your home network.
  1. Check the boxes for “Private” or any other desired network type, and click Next.
  2. Type a name (usually the name of the program which requires the port opening). Click Finish.
  3. Your new rule appears in the “Inbound Rules” list. It takes effect immediately.
