How to set connection parameters

Shared Serial Ports lets you specify connection parameters which are used to open the shared serial port.

There are two ways to do that – either by using dynamic or custom connection parameters:

1. “Use dynamic parameters” option is useful when you set connection parameters within your application, which is going to open the shared serial port.

2. Alternatively, you can specify connection parameters by selecting “Use custom parameters” option and adjusting “Baudrate”, “Databits”, “Parity”, “Stop bits” and “Flow control” values.

In both cases, connection parameters must match the ones of the serial port device in order to be able to establish connection.

Setting up dynamic connection parameters

  • Launch “Shared Serial Ports” application if it is not started yet. The default path to it is: “Start”  -> “All programs” –> “Eltima Software” –> “Shared Serial Ports” –> “Configure Shared Serial Ports”.
  • In Serial ports tree select serial port you want to modify real serial port’s parameters for.
  • Select “Use dynamic parameters” option in Configuration panel:

dynamic

    • Click “Apply” button.

Setting up custom connection parameters

  • Launch “Shared Serial Ports” application if it is not started yet. The default path to it is: “Start” –> “All programs” –> “Eltima Software” –> “Shared Serial Ports” –> “Configure Shared Serial Ports”.
  • In Serial ports tree select serial port you want to modify real serial port’s parameters for.
  • Select “Use custom parameters” option in Configuration panel:
