com0com null modem emulator -
Virtual Serial Port Driver

Virtual Serial Port Driver is a Сom0com null modem emulator by Electronic Team. The way the software works is really simple – it creates virtual COM ports on a PC and pairs them. These virtual bridges connect applications and transmit data between them, data sent to a virtual COM port at one end is received on the other end almost instantaneously. The application emulates serial ports in such a way that they are no different from real hardware ports.

Virtual Serial Port Driver main features

  • Unlimited number of virtual COM ports

This null modem emulator allows creating as many virtual serial ports as you would like to, so there is no need to occupy your real ports. The only limitation here is the capacity of your hardware. Once created, ports are displayed in ‘Device Manager’ and they are easily detected by software or hardware you install on your machine. You can regulate which application can access a particular port.
  • Emulation of all hardware port settings

Created virtual ports emulate all the settings of the real ports, including baudrate, full HandFlow control support, etc. Your application will see no difference between them. Not only that, you can emulate a serial line break too. Thanks to advanced Windows kernel driver technology there is a support to WDM, WMI, Power Management, PnP, etc. This null modem emulator is fully compatible with API COM and supports all Windows messages.
  • All signal lines support

Virtual Serial Ports Driver creates virtual serial ports that support all standard hardware signal lines – DTR/DSR, RTS/CTS, RING, ERROR, DCD, etc. In this com0com the local port’s DTR is connected to the remote ports’ DSR and DCD, while RTS of the former is connected to CTS of the latter. Depending on the hardware configuration you can go for a loopback pinout or create a customized one.

Full features list

Any number of virtual serial ports pairs can be created
Virtual serial ports are absolutely the same copies of real ones - applications won't see the difference between real and virtual serial ports
Virtual serial ports can be controlled directly from your own application via Dynamic Link Library supplied with VSPD (for OEM License owners)
Link between virtual serial ports is much faster than real null-modem cable connection and solely depends on your processor speed (average transfer speed is about 5.5 Mbytes/sec)
Real serial ports are not occupied - you can even have no real ports in system at all
Possibility to create ports for the current user session only. Allows RDP users to create port with the same name (e.g. COM1) in each user session.
You can enable automatic update of ports’ list, thus you can see pairs created in other user sessions
Instantaneous ports creation lets working with them even before PnP manager detects the newly added ports
Strict baudrate emulation
Ports can be deleted even if they are open by other applications
What customers say
We are using VSPD for testing out Geographic Information System software connectivity with a virtual GPS (software simulation). The GPS emulator is simulating the output we normally receive from a GPS navigator.
