Virtual RS485 Port Driver is a software solution that allows you to emulate virtual RS485 ports and pair them. Null modem emulator connecting two serial ports forms a virtual bridge that allows two applications on its opposite ends talk to each other. Data that goes from one app travels to the other app immediately.

Virtual RS485 port emulates all parameters of a real hardware port in such a way that the system cannot see the difference between the two. Besides eliminating clutter on your desk virtual RS485 null modem offers you another advantage – it works much faster than a real RS485 null modem. OEM license allows you to include this RS485 null modem emulator into your application. It means you can create virtual RS485 ports directly from your software.

Create any number of virtual ports

The software is capable of creating an unlimited number of ports; all of them are displayed in the system’s Device Manager so you can connect to them whenever required. Your real hardware ports – if you’ve got any on your machine –are not occupied. Virtual ports can be given any names, including those of the real ports. It is possible to restrict access to a virtual port to only particular applications.

Emulate all real ports parameters

Virtual ports will behave exactly like real hardware ports thanks to Virtual RS485 port driver’s ability to simulate all required parameters - Baud rate, data bits, parity bits, stop bits, etc. The application is capable of simulating a serial line break and compatible with API COM. Advanced Windows kernel driver technology supports WDM, WMI, Power Management, PnP, Windows messages, etc.

Emulate all signal lines

Apart from RS485 port emulation, the application supports all standard hardware signal lines, including DTR/DSR, RTS/CTS, RING, ERROR, DCD, etc. Virtual null modem cable pairs DTR and DCD, RTS and CTS lines – a local port to a remote port respectively. There is a loopback pinout or you can set it up according to your hardware configuration.

  • Serial port splitting

    This RS485 null modem emulator lets you split physical serial ports (e.g. COM 1) into multiple virtual communication ports (COM2, COM3, COM4, etc.). These newly created virtual RS485 ports will appear to the system as exact copies of the original physical serial port. Use of this virtual RS485 null modem also lets you share physical serial ports among several applications. Multiple serial apps can access the same COM interface and any attached device.
  • Joining COM ports

    Virtual Serial Port Driver PRO helps you link several physical RS485 ports to a single emulated port. Connected in this manner, serial applications will receive data from all connected real COM ports simultaneously. This results in your ability to redirect traffic from several devices back to one application.
  • Creating bundle connections

    An option offered by Virtual Serial Port Driver PRO allows the creation and management of complex bundles of serial ports. Serial data can then be transmitted by an unlimited number of physical and emulated RS485 ports in both directions. Serial data received by a COM port on the ‘IN’ side is redirected to all COM ports on the ‘OUT’ side of the bundle and vice versa.

    Managing your hardware control lines is facilitated by setting the Main Port for both sides (In/Out) of a bundle.
  • Switching ports automatically

    Applications designed to only use a limited number of ports can take advantage of a special feature in this RS485 port emulation software called Switcher. This option enables you to join multiple physical ports into one virtual port. All your ports can have the same name if you wish. Then you create a switcher to the virtual RS485 port in your application.

    The switcher detects an open COM port from the list of linked ports and presents it to the app for use when a serial port connection is required. Your program now can automatically communicate to any free serial port as if it were always the same port.
  • Merging COM ports

    A new and advanced feature of this RS485 null modem emulator enables the addition of an unlimited number of virtual and physical COM ports to any single serial port bundle, as long as the bundle has not been divided into ‘IN and ‘OUT’ sides. All traffic sent to one port is reproduced to all of the bundle’s physical and virtual ports. This means that all devices and applications have the option of exchanging data simultaneously with multiple devices and applications
